The Reformatory by Tananarive Due
My rating: 5 of 5 stars My first five star read of the year! A heartwrenching story with twists and turns, ghosts, and monsters. Spooky and atmospheric, this is the kind of book that sticks with you for a long time. View all my reviews

American Zion: A New History of Mormonism by Benjamin E. Park
My rating: 4 of 5 stars I appreciate the throughness and depth that this book demonstrated. You can see that transparency was attempted but the voice wasn't entirely objective. Just considering the racism so inherent in the system, how it is doctrine and not just "a practice", I feel like the book was too sympathetic to the LDS church and tried to give them more "benefit of the doubt" than is deserved. However, I still learned new information and will be adding the physical book to my reference library. View all my reviews |
