The House of Last Resort by Christopher Golden
My rating: 4 of 5 stars This book will make you want to move to Italy and buy a house with a sinister reputation. The pace was perfect and it was properly chilling. Just the perfect spooky read. My only complaint is the constant mental battle of the characters and their acceptance of good and evil forces. It became a bit exhausting. My rating: 4 of 5 stars This is a rollercoaster of a thriller with so many twists and turns. A character driven narrative that tells multiple storylines around the same event and each person reveals something new and shocking that keeps the reader guessing. I had a hard time putting this one down and read it in less than 24 hours. My only complaint is that sometimes the retellings could get a little redundant but otherwise, a fantastic story. The Sanctuary by Andrew Hunter Murray
My rating: 3 of 5 stars This book had just enough intrigue to keep me reading but lacked a real punch to make it unforgettable. The pace was a little slow for my liking only for it to fizzle out near the end. The twists and climax were lame. Just another book I won't be recommending. I received a complimentary egalley from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. View all my reviews 1/18/2024 0 Comments The Fury by Alex Michaelides

My rating: 2 of 5 stars Absolutely disappointing. This is a simple plot, simply told, with simple characters. The narrating character is exhausting and annoying, almost unbearable. The entire book was droll and unimaginative and ends with what? A temper tantrum? It was a complete waste of time. What's worse is that Michaelides can write, he has the talent, but the storytelling is lacking. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. My rating: 4 of 5 stars Everything about this book was something that I enjoyed. It was a bit of a slow burn but the action was all very strategically placed to keep me interested throughout. It definitely had some hints of Lord of the Flies, and the wilderness survival scratched my itch for a good Hatchet experience. I was thankful that the horror aspects weren't cheesy, nor did they fall flat or underwhelm me. The characters, despite being teenagers, were well fleshed out and didn't make me feel like I was reading a YA book. I definitely will be recommending this book. The Tusks of Extinction by Ray Nayler
My rating: 2 of 5 stars I really wanted to like this book but I just can’t give it more than two stars. It had all the makings of a good book but it just turned out to be a lot of rambling and disjointed thoughts. It could have been longer, more fleshed out, but it just fell flat. I received an advanced copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. View all my reviews 1/18/2024 0 Comments Camp Zero by Michelle Min Sterling

My rating: 3 of 5 stars This book was readable but upon finishing I found I was wholly unimpressed. None of it dove deep enough, offered enough answers, just left you hanging. I often felt confused about what was happening and why. It jumped around often and I had trouble keeping characters straight. Maybe I wasn't the right audience. My rating: 3 of 5 stars This book lacked the pull that gets you through a good book. The story was okay but dragged in unnecessary details and asides. It felt blocky and stuttered and was a real effort to get to the finish, and then kept going long after it should have ended. View all my reviews |
