It was a bit of a slow burn but the action was all very strategically placed to keep me interested throughout. It definitely had some hints of Lord of the Flies, and the wilderness survival scratched my itch for a good Hatchet experience. I was thankful that the horror aspects weren't cheesy, nor did they fall flat or underwhelm me. The characters, despite being teenagers, were well fleshed out and didn't make me feel like I was reading a YA book. I definitely will be recommending this book.
